Understanding the College Search Process
If you are the parent of a junior high or high school student you probably have read or heard many stories about how ‘early” you should begin to look at colleges or how “stressful” the process of applying to college can be. Yes, the process can heighten stress levels in a family…..but that’s not entirely a negative aspect. What can be avoided is the “last minute” rush to get the applications out of the house. Or worse yet, not understanding what needs to be done and when! Complicated process? It doesn’t have to be!
These four sessions on Understanding the College Search Process defines and articulates the many aspects of “taking charge” of the process into manageable pieces. I will cover the following major components of the College Search Process:
• Overview of What Teenagers Should Focus on During High School • Standardized Tests……..what they are and what they mean • What Colleges Look For In A Student……….. • We will discuss college fairs, campus visits, interviews, follow-up, etc. • We will break down the application and college essay • Making the Decision………what does it mean? • Parenting the College Bound Student • Financial Aid…….understanding the process!
I invite you to join me as we travel the pathway of exploring and de-mystifying the process of helping your son or daughter find the best fitting college or university for them.
