Step Parenting
Most people will agree that it isn’t easy to create and sustain a stepfamily today. Because of the many daily demands in our lives, working through step parenting can be stressful. Together as a group we will share our challenges and learn the ins and outs of how best to successfully manage a step family. As a stepmother myself, I have learned how necessary it is to have a belief in oneself and the tools to handle situations as they arise so we can best utilize our abilities.
In this seminar participants will have an opportunity to:
Identify the typical challenges of step families, and learn how they differ from nuclear families. Understand key issues in step families Develop realistic expectations Appreciate the many transitions that take place in step families Develop and understand their disciplinary role as a stepparent Talk about how to keep families feeling connected. Recognize the effects of stepfamilies on children and how they differ Discuss and appreciate the typical struggles and challenges Learn how to manage the “ex” Acknowledge that it is ok to feel uncertain about parenting stepchildren Understand the importance of preserving the “biological” unit
