Microsoft Access

Beginning Microsoft Access will introduce you to the fundamentals of Access. You will learn how to create databases and how to manipulate the data within them. You will create new tables with sample data and learn how to modify field properties within those tables.

I will introduce you to queries and explain how they work. You will have the opportunity to create your own queries, use criteria in queries, use calculated fields in queries, and create simple expressions.

You will learn several methods for filtering data in your database, as well as learn simple techniques for developing forms to more easily enter data. We will create reports that will offer various way of professionally presenting your data. When you have completed the 4 hour course, I believe you will have developed a sound level of familiarity with the program and will be comfortable using and modifying data in the program in your office or home.

As a college professor, I have found that the slides that are presented for the course are wonderful references, but I prefer that they be printed out in advance and that we use our class time for actual hands on practice. I want each student in the course to create the databases, tables, queries, forms, and reports during our designated class time, so that I can trouble shoot any problems you may encounter. I believe that being able to successfully complete the activities in the course will enable each student to develop a sense of confidence that will make them more comfortable with the program and ultimately more successful in their experiences with Microsoft Access.
