The Art of the Renaissance
This course will explore the art of the Renaissance in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Not your traditional “art history” course requiring memorization of countless names and dates. Instead, we will focus on the ideas and themes of the Renaissance as reflected and created by the art of the period. I will be providing valuable background information, necessary to a proper and full understanding of the work. Students will also be shown how to develop their own visual skills in a way that will enhance the appreciation of any kind of art.
The course will focus on the art of Europe in the 14th to 17th centuries. We will look at the development and change of artistic style in relation to the cultural, political, religious and philosophical climate of the times. This will enable the student to achieve a fully integrated understanding of the Renaissance in all it’s depth and variety. Whether you are a student, an artist, planning a trip to Europe, or just someone with a curiosity for the art of Da Vinci, Michelangelo and company, this course will provide an enjoyable learning experience of one of the most fascinating and influential periods of human history.
